Incredible.  I haven't touched watercolor in probably 20 years and pastel in 10yrs.  I feel like I need to bust them out again and follow your tutorials to get back into them.

Great work!

Have you experimented at all with fixing and then using oils on top for fine detail?  Curious...

This is so beautiful. In your step 8 where you added hair strokes, I can't understand how you added the light color over the dark background. I use transparent watercolors and if I painted the light color with my paints, once dried you wouldn't be able to see it in contrast with the dark background.

Hi, I've been admiring your art work for sometime (Every time I see something new of yours I just melt!) And I was wondering what brand of watercolor paints you use? If you could tell me that would be wonderful.

your art inspires me in so many ways! i've always loved working with traditional media, but when i figured out you exist, it just blew my mind!!
your technique is astounding! the media you use and how you use it just leaves me speechless
i never KNEW you can put watercolor and colored pencils together until i looked at your work (now im trying it hahaha)
not only with colored pencils, but, chalk pastel as well!! even with a fixative it smudges for me...

all i can say is :worship:

My only question is why you use watercolor over chalk pastels. Pastels have to be smudged with water contact. Great peiece btw.

I'm pretty sure she fixes the pastels so that they can't be smudged before adding the watercolor layer.

You can't fix pastels, any kind of spray fixatives for pastels aren't working. I tried some different before. I never use any spray over my pastel works after when I ruined whole piece. But pastels working great over watercolor, it's why I asked her why she does that.

Well, I'm not sure for myself because I've never tried it in the order she does. I have, like you, though worked pastels over watercolor with nice results. I also don't rely on fixative very much as I mostly do layered watercolor pieces that build and mix with the base. Fixatives frustrate me for the most part and alter the colors slightly.

Thank you very much for this peak into your technique. :D I'm curious about one thing though: You often mention that you use a fixative to prevent the previous layers from blurring and other unwelcomed effects. Do you use a special brand? The ones I saw so far normally prevented me from using anything water based on them afterwards. :)

Great tutorial and it shows that one can use other mediums on a single piece. I really liked your process. I was curious how you added watercolor detail to her hair after it was so dark? Was this done with the watercolor pencils?
